Downloading Accucadd - the Collegiate Version
Accucadd is a 32 bit Windows program. You must have Windows 98,
Windows NT 4, or all later versions (including Windows ME, XP, and 2000) in
order to use it. It will not work on Windows 95, Windows 3, Windows NT3.5,
or any earlier version of Windows. If you do not have a suitable version of
Windows then do not download this evaluation until you have upgraded your
operating system.
The following assumes you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer as
your browser. If you are using a different browser, the pictures will not look
exactly the same. However, you will be following much the same series of steps.
The pictures may also be different if you have an "add-in" or "wizard" installed
to help with downloads.
Downloading consists of three parts:
- Moving the compressed (zipped) information from the file server to your
computer. The information is compressed to download faster.
- Expanding (unzipping) the information on your computer. You do not need
any programs to do this: the compressed file will expand itself when you
double-click it.
- Installing the expanded program files. Windows requires that programs be
installed before they are run. We use the standard InstallShield installation
program to do this, which also allows you to Uninstall if you wish.
The first step is to click on the link in your "You have been approved..."
email. When you click the link to start the download you'll get a dialog like
this:

Ensure that it is set to "Save to disk" - you do not want to try
running the program from our file server.
When you click "OK" you'll get a dialog something like this:

This is asking you where on your computer you want to put the download (the
zipped files). In this example we're using the Desktop. You can put the download
anywhere you want - but it is your responsibility to remember where you put it,
so you can find it later on. When you click on "Save"
you'll get the progress counter dialog, shown below.

When the download is complete, look in the folder that you specified for the
download (zipped file), which is named accueval.exe.
In our example, this is
on the desktop, part of which is shown below. If you want, you can stop at this
stage for now, and install the program later, following the instructions from
here on through the end. Make sure you know where you put
accueval.exe so you can find it again.

Browse to accueval.exe and double click it. The Self-Extractor (unzipper)
will start running. You'll see a dialog like this:

If you press "About" you'll get a dialog like the one below, giving
you version and copyright information. Otherwise press Setup
to continue, or Cancel to stop the installation.

Pressing "Setup" starts the Self-Extractor running; a progress bar will show
what is happening. It should only take a few seconds to complete.

Once it has completed, it will automatically start the Setup program,
InstallShield.

InstallShield will display the Accucadd "splash" logo:

...and then automatically go to the Setup screen.

Work through the setup in the usual way. When you've made your choices about
where you want the program put you'll see a progress screen, below, which shows
what is happening and how far along you are. Once again, the entire process
should only take a few seconds.

When Setup is done, the various installation programs clean up any temporary
files they created, and then you are back to where you were before you started the
download.
The installation process gives you three ways to run the program:
- an icon on your desktop
- an entry in the Start menu
- an entry in the Programs menu
These are all the same - there is no difference between them. You can delete
any of them that you don't want. You can also use Start: Run... or Windows
Explorer to run Accucadd if you know how to do this.
